Skiing & Snowboarding

Skiing-Snowboarding are two related sports. Skiing-Snowboarding are snow sports that require the athletes to trudge through the snow using specialized apparatus attached to their feet. Skiing would require the athlete to wear skis on both feet. Skis are flat devices worn on both feet of the athletes. These long planks enable to skier to slide through the snow smoothly. Skiing would also require the athlete to have poles or stocks to help them to turn smoothly anytime.

Snowboarding on the other hand, uses only one flat device big enough to fit both feet. These flat devices imitate street skateboards. Snowboarders doesn’t use stocks in turning instead they adjust their body and muster to move their snowboards to their preferred direction.

Skiing-Snowboarding histories are different. Skiing was originally not treated as a sport but as a way of traveling from one place to another through snow. It was only during the 20th century that skiing became a sport and a recreational activity as it gained popularity in USA. Today, people still practice the activity of going one place to another even if its not downhill. People now refer to this as cross-country skiing. It’s even regarded as a complete physical exercise since your whole body must exert an effort to move through the snow. Most of the Skiers enjoy the sport by going downhill. Currently, there are two general types of skiing: cross-country and downhill.
Snowboarding on the other hand was developed as a combination of street skateboarding and skiing. The sport was developed during the 1960s and became a popular sport for extreme players as they go downhill with only a board on their feet to help them.

Skiing-Snowboarding is a central sport during the Olympic Winter Games and Winter X-Games. Olympic Winter Games deals with regular winter sports games such as cross country skiing, ski jumping. It was only during the late 1990s snowboarding was added to Olympic Winter Games because of its popularity and response in the Winter X-Games.
